A fixture in the L.A. entertainment community since 2004, Ysanne Spevack aka MEE is perhaps best known for arranging strings, touring and recording with the Smashing Pumpkins. She moved to NYC full time in late 2015, and is composing music to picture, exploring multi-sensory music, and creating innovative experiences.
As a solo artist, Mee has released four albums, plus 2013's The Mermaid Song, which sold 24,000 copies via her partnerships with Lush Cosmetics and Sea Shepherd. She has been featured in The Los Angeles Times, Mojo, Wallpaper, The Strad, i-D, and beyond.
She has worked with Elton John, Tiesto, Christina Perri, and Tilda Swinton, as well as creating orchestral arrangements for Michael Stipe (REM), Psychic TV, Brett Anderson (Suede) and more great artists.
She enjoys experimenting, and has toured and/or recorded with some of the greatest experimental musicians, including Psychic TV, Faust, and members of Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Electric Prunes, The Seeds, and Hawkwind.
Mee works on multimedia projects including film, TV, commercials, and live experiential events, and collaborates with other composers, from her string arrangements for an opera commissioned by the English National Opera, to Doug Aitken's sleepwalkers film for MoMA, which was their most viewed artwork ever.
She has worked on projects for brands that include: American Express, LUSH, Nordstrom, Siemens, Levi's, Intercontinental Hotels, Ted Baker, British Aerospace, Jaguar, and global media clients, including Sony, EMI, Virgin, CAA, BBC, Discovery, M&C Saatchi and BBH.
She has composed music for non-profits including Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, Childfund, Oxfam, Sweet Relief, Jail Guitar Doors, and David Lynch Foundation.
Born and raised in London, she was known as Mee for many years, as named by Genesis P-Orridge in the early 1990s. She has written thirteen books, and lives in New York City's Lower East Side with her cat, Major Thom.
